San Francisco

Two things to NOT underestimate when visiting San Francisco for the first time:

(1) the level of windiness (no joke)
(2) the mesmerizing charm of the Victorian houses, especially the painted ladies.

Postcards from Carmel, California

To break the long drive between Northern and Southern California, we spent a night
in Carmel and I’m already itching to go back. I’ve read about this place in numerous books
and the expectations were huge. Luckily, it exceeded all of them. It’s small, charming,
sleepy, picturesque with a whimsical air, as I like to describe it, straight from a storybook.
If you are ever driving along these parts, I definitely recommend you make a stop, even if for a day.

Monterey, California

It’s been a month since I got back from my California road tip but I still have
a ton of pictures to show. On the list: Carmel,  San Francisco, Santa Barbara and
Yosemite National Park. Since NY is in full on Fall mode, it’s  nice to reminisce
about last summer memories through the blog posts.

At first I was a bit disappointed when looking at the beach photos. I don’t feel like it
conveys the true beauty of the place. Some fog and rocks..really Olga? But believe me,
in person it’s breathtaking. Maybe it’s the peacefulness of it all (albeit, as a New Yorker,
traveling for nature and silence is good enough reason). Perhaps it’s because this untouched
nature stretches for miles and no matter where you look, it’s nothing but the sky, water, and
sand. You may hear occasional seagulls, sea lions laying on rocks, trees swaying to the sound
of the wind. There is something really comforting about that. But in the end, I realized that
like the best things in life, sometimes simple leaves you with the biggest impact of all.

Hearst Castle

I first heard of Hearst Castle through some of the bloggers that I happen to follow
on the West Coast and was constantly memorized by how beautiful and picturesque
it is. So when it came time to plan our California road trip, I knew I would be throwing
it to the mix and am so glad that I did. I think the pictures speak for themselves. The
outdoor pool was under construction but the one inside made up for it.

Fall in Las Vegas

Turns out, all you need to get into the Fall mood, is a visit to Vegas.
They sure know how to put on a show. At the end of our road trip, we spent
all of 48 hours in Vegas, in order to visit the Grand Canyon. Since I’m not a big
drinker or a gambler, my Vegas adventures usually comprise of walking around my
favorite hotels (Bellagio/Aria/Venetian). Bellagio is always #1 when it comes to seasonal
décor. Fall, I’m ready for ya.
